Our favorite "dippy duck" the cormorant is immortalized in this brightly-colored one-of-a-kind hooked rug made with reclaimed wool. Handmade with a cheerful approach, these four ducks are in a row showing off unique feather patterns in uniform poses. A gorgeous rosy sky in pinks and peaches surround them.
Lovely and luxurious texture is achieved with playful integration of various strips of wool, and though it would be unseemly to show you the underside to this handsome focal rug, we would love to! It is finished with lime and blue trim. There are purples, mohair, and even a soft gray houndstooth mixed among the resilient fibers.

Amelia MacDougall Fleming is the creator of Coppice Tree Hooking. Folk Maritime as an art, way of life, and tradition reflects her heritage of growing up on the coast of Canada.
Sourcing only natural and reclaimed fibers, Amelia depicts scenes of wildlife through rug hooking. The practical sense of these works rests in the materials used - interesting wools and silk hooked into a broad burlap backing. A more whimsical sense arises with use of color and subject matter being stylized versions of true-to-life animals.
The color and shape blocking in Amelia's designs are very interesting. Being the fresh take on a time-old craft, these compositions are made more compelling upon closer look as one wonders what fiber fragments to pull to the surface in a similar way. For example, is that a tiny houndstooth wool that has been cut into strips and reconstructed here as a feather pattern for an owl? It is!
Rockland has a strong arts presence in Maine so it is no surprise someone like Amelia has made it her home base. We look forward to seeing how her craft is honed over time. This is a truly remarkable start.
