When art imitates life, even a hummingbird in our barn is inspired by the result.

Constructed with the anatomical precision worthy of a botanist, this one-of-a-kind sculpture is composed of two purple peonies, three roses, three cosmos, two branches of foliage, three ferns, and five wild buckwheat.

The paper sculpture rests within a custom compote made by Maine ceramic artist Rebecca Verrill and is designed for 360 degree display. The three dimensional rendering is a contemporary interpretation of still lives made timeless in paintings by Dutch masters.

Handcrafted on cloth-covered stem wire with German and Italian crepe papers, this art piece can be cared for easily. In fact, a benefit of such an art piece is that it never requires watering nor will it drop pollens or leaves onto your table.

To care for, keep away from moisture and direct light. Dust with a blow dryer on cool when necessary. Store in dark, dry area when not on display. Fluff flowers and bend wires as needed

- Measures 11" x 8" x 9.5"

Amity Libby possesses the skilled hands and science-meets-art mind behind flower and jane, formerly known as Florabeane. She is a fine art paper florist who describes herself as a teacher, a farmer, an artist, and a friend.

When not developing in-depth web tutorials teaching others how to make paper flower art, Amity can be found on her fifty-acre farm in the foothills tending to cut flowers, making paper flower orders, foraging mushrooms, and spending time with family.

Amity has a degree in fine art and a Master of Science in education with a focus on teaching with technology. Her work has been on display at Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens in Boothbay and Calderwood Hall on North Haven Island.

Sharing knowledge of craft with others is at the core of flower and jane’s ethos. In addition to teaching workshops in person and online, Amity also shares her work through her own photography and written guides.

From the artist: “I love how it feels to be lost in the moment of making flowers - which includes the colors, the shapes, and the overall voice of the piece I am making...to be in that creative mode of making the flowers and greens sing in harmony.”
