Judy Blooms Art Show at The Good Supply in Pemaquid Maine

Art Show & Garden Party at Historic Pemaquid Barn

Pemaquid, ME  – It is party time once again at The Good Supply! On July 28th from 5:30-7:30pm, we will open our annual art show through August 31st and host a festive garden party. All are welcome and the event is free to attend. Judy Blooms: Fresh Maine Art at The Good Supply marks the sixth annual art show and opening celebration at the store. The 2018 exhibit will continue a core theme of inspiration from Maine nature.

“The show, powered by four talented, hard-working female artists from Maine, represents a snapshot of our place in time," says exhibit curator Catherine McLetchie. "Supporting these women in our community helps shape the tapestry of our culture. Will we embrace this fresh take on what it means to ‘see’ nature?"

The use of unconventional materials is a noteworthy element of this event.

    florabeane | paper sculpture

Amity Beane of florabeane creates breathtaking reproductions of flowers that she grows on her fifty-acre farm in Dixfield. These beautifully delicate artworks are paper sculpture.

Amity is a teacher, a farmer, and an artist to name just a few roles. When not working with young students in her small western Maine school district, she can be found at home in the foothills cultivating flowers, making paper flower orders, and chasing her baby. Amity has degrees in fine art and education with a focus on teaching with technology. Her work has been on display at Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens in Boothbay and Calderwood Hall on North Haven Island. Sharing knowledge of craft with others is at the core of Florabeane’s work. In addition to teaching workshops in person and online, Amity also shares her work through her own photography and written guides.

Inspired by minimalism and material, Camden maker Karina K. Steele’s artwork includes carved spoons and bentwood mobiles.

A Colorado native, Karina had spent most of her life on the mountain slopes of the Rockies. In 2012 she switched gears and began her journey in the craft of woodworking. She studied design and furniture making at the Center for Furniture Craftmanship in Rockport Maine.  Now living and working in Camden, where the mountains meet the sea, Karina makes one-of-a-kind spoons, kitchen tools, fine mobiles and modern housewares.

Judy Blooms Art Show at The Good Supply in Pemaquid Maine with Liz Martone of EFM Studio

EFM Studio | mosaic & weavings

Liz Martone of Round Pond interprets the seasons and colors of Midcoast Maine in richly textured, exuberant weavings. Liz’s selection of work will also include large-scale mosaic glass pieces inspired by gem stones.

EFM Studio was founded in Brooklyn in 2012 before relocating to a home base in Round Pond, Maine. The creative force behind the bespoke design studio is illustrator and maker Liz Martone. Unafraid to mix urban edge with rural sensibilities, Liz has a love for all things handmade. This explains her diverse exploration of mediums, which ranges from glass to wood to fiber. A BFA in Illustration formalized Liz's passion for the arts and continues to inform her work. She creates unique designs, translating drawings and showcasing a love for patterns. Her work is exhibited in galleries in New York and Midcoast Maine, and much of her time is spent creating custom installations for private and commercial clients.

All wares are imagined, designed and created in small batches by artist Trelawney O'Brien in her studio in Rockport, Maine. Her current work focuses on traditional embroidery, activism through art, natural dyeing, symbolism, and up-cycled fashion.

Artists will be in attendance to discuss their works and answer questions, and art will be for sale along with The Good Supply’s regular stock of homewares and gifts.
