Juneteenth 2025

Rain or shine, this is always a good time! Join us Thursday, June 19 from noon to 2pm at 110 Belvedere Road in Damariscotta 🇺🇸

Local doctor Shannon Carr wanted to do something healthy for our community so she approached us to help launch a community initiative called Bee Aware in 2021.

It was clear that hosting a fun event to celebrate the freedom of all people was a good place to start. Of course, the history of how Juneteenth came to be is horrible - that people were enslaved 2-years after the Emancipation Proclamation - but we celebrate it because the time had come!

The images of cake from celebrations of years past show two important things. One - that we serve free food for fun and everybody is invited to come enjoy it with us. Two - that our neighbors like Annie at Barn Door Bakery in Damariscotta support this national holiday. Thank you, Annie, for baking such lovely cakes over the years!

A big thank you also goes out to Coastal Rivers Land Trust for being our venue host. Coastal Rivers has let us use the space at Salt Bay Farm on Belvedere Road for all 4 Juneteenth celebrations! It is beautiful to walk among the wildflowers and birds to reach the ocean.

Environmental justice is social justice so we appreciate the work Coastal Rivers does to give locals and visitors alike the opportunity to freely visit places in nature. Volunteers and a dedicated staff sponsor trails like that of Salt Bay Farm .

In addition to a tent and walking trail that features a children's book filled with facts about Juneteenth as well as the courageous people who brought it into being, there is music, arts & crafts, great conversation, and more!

This is a great way to enjoy time spent in community! We hope you can make it. If you would like to volunteer, please contact Catherine at c.walton@thegoodsupply.org ! Thank you ❤️ ❤️ ❤️
