Moody and bright, this playful floral embroidery art is at once dark and light. The backdrop is a deep maroon cotton twill, which serves as a high contrast background to bright pops of color. We seen yellow and orange sunflowers accompanied by a pink rose and another just a little more peachy.
Stylized periwinkle blue flowers might be delphinium, and it's fun just to imagine. There is great texture in this small composition thanks to pink and yellow beads that offer both dimension and solid points of color. Lilac hues are also present in sweet french knots. What an elegant piece of handiwork to cherish for a lifetime.
The artist makes an effort to reuse hoops, backing fabric, and embroidery floss found at local flea markets and thrift stores lending an extra element of uniqueness. This is recycling at its best!

Emilee Harper has been creating art as long as she can remember. The daughter of a quilter, she learned to sew at around 6-years old. She moved to Maine from her home state of South Carolina to attend Maine College of Art to study printmaking. She loved the process of layering, playing with color and texture, and eventually incorporating fiber into her work.
Emilee discovered Midcoast and fell in love with the natural beauty. Her work is inspired by the world around her. Flowers and fungi, stars and sea, are repeated themes in her embroidery pieces.
