While decidedly round in shape, this mug's elegance lies in the soft angled transition from its narrow base. The small handle invites the user to hold it lightly. The shape can also be cupped between two palms in a gesture of giving and receiving.

Like all of Monohanako's work, this piece is delicate. It's fragility requires its beholder to be present in the moment, even when washing a dish after use. How clever to use a handmade work of art to remind of this ideal.

- Measures approximately 3" tall x 3" in diameter with a 1.5" diameter base
- Wash by hand
- Peppermint glaze

Hanako Nakazato is a 14th generation potter from Japan. Her technique and philosophy are rooted in the ceramic traditions of Karatsumono. However, her years spent living in the West have influenced her shapes and surfaces.  Dividing her time between her studios in and Union, Maine and Kyushu, Japan, Hanako creates exquisite forms that balance beauty and functionality. With a deep respect for the role of her craft at the table, Hanako believes that each piece is made complete through use.
