The Shaker community really valued function as their motivation in design. Minimal use of materials also contributed to designs that have now grown timeless as their longevity in the crafts community gains waves of interest as trends come and go.

A tray like this that can be carried with one hand is very useful. Some might remember seeing these on side tables in their grandparents' homes, but some consider them just as relevant today in all the cozy farmhouses that are lighting their stoves for the season and need a sweet place to stash matches and more.

Made by volunteers at The Carpenter's Boat Shop in a fundraising effort, this tray can be very useful for storage. It is also just as dear when holding utensils while setting up a picnic or other items while organizing a desktop or crafting space.

Every season at The Carpenter's Boat Shop, a staff of carpenters instructs apprentices in the trades of boatbuilding and boat restoration. The 501c3 nonprofit organization supports those who are interested in handcraft - or sea craft - and happen to be experiencing a transition in life that allows them to come live in Maine in an intentional community that does a lot of good.

The venue really does make for a great neighborhood gathering space. Interesting and hardworking people come through the shop every year, and they do great things like stacking wood for folks who need help. In fact, a group of apprentices came over to shovel snow for Catherine when Lil was an infant and Karl was at sea for work. That's the founder of The Good Supply and her family for those who have yet to meet them!

90% of proceeds for these sales go back to The Carpenter's Boat Shop. Acting as the online store for such a great organization is our way of giving back. We'd like to help them operate as smoothly in the next 42 years as they have for the last 42! For more information, please visit their website by clicking here.
