This unique hardwood cutting board in maple and white oak is incredibly versatile and also works well for serving. The block-style centerpiece boasts a profile slightly taller than the foundation board that frames it, which provides an interesting design element that is also functional.

The centerpiece can be removed to create a negative space perfect for a bowl or collection of dishes, thereby creating two separate serving stations as the centerpiece itself can be used alone as a cutting or serving board. The centerpiece can also be inverted to add height to one's food presentation.

- Measures 16" x 15" x 3"
- Maple and white oak
- Wash by hand

Isabella Z. Pierson is a designer and builder working in wood. Thoughtfully creating objects that are a pleasure to live with and use, she enjoys the physical work and relationship to tools and materials that come from building by hand. Blades and skills are kept sharp as she uses cut-offs, throw-aways, and scraps whenever possible.

Isabella’s background in woodworking originates at The Apprenticeshop in Rockland, Maine, which is a nonprofit boatbuilding school focusing on traditional craftsmanship.

Many techniques and finishing processes from boatbuilding are employed in Isabella’s work as she creates unique furniture pieces and accessories for the home. In addition to the collection you find here, Isabella accepts commissions locally and internationally.

From the artist, “In designing a piece of furniture, I begin by considering its function and the particular requirements of the person who will live with it. I try to remove all structural elements that are not essential and then play with balance, proportion and visual rhythm to achieve beauty. I enjoy bringing attention to structural components as unlikely decoration. My hope is to create pieces that are at the same time light and rich, portable and durable.”
