The Good Supply Barn Restoration Complete
Pemaquid, ME (June 27, 2013) After a year and a half of work, The Good Supply artisan store opens the doors of its 150 year-old barn for the 2013 season on Friday, July 5th. Creatively curated housewares and handmade gifts by local artisans are sure to win over even the most discerning shopper. This year, the store showcases the wares of 30 artisans - with more in the pipeline - including newcomers Alex Beaudet and his elegant French-style rolling pins as well as Kate Mess and her cleverly-designed enameled jewelry.
Company founder and artisan Catherine Walton and her husband Karl McLetchie bought their property with designs to renovate the barn to house The Good Supply storefront. Two holes in the roof and a mostly rotted sill didn’t obscure their vision of the space and its potential to serve as a gathering point for local artisans and those who would like to support their craft.
Using two timber-framing books printed in the 1970s, the couple set to work to refurbish the three-story, rustic space. The resulting effect is one in which the patchwork of a century of repairs creates interest. Walton says, “Our main hope is that the handwork done in the barn will complement the fine local objects displayed within its walls.”
