Maine is known for lighthouses. Sixty-five of them stand watch over our 3,400 miles of coastline. The most Eastern light in the country is the West Quoddy Head light in Lubec, Maine. This embroidered beacon with its bold red stripes, crashing waves, and craggy rocks is a lovely homage to a noteworthy place in Maine's working waters.

The artist makes an effort to reuse hoops, backing fabric, and embroidery floss found at local flea markets and thrift stores lending an extra element of uniqueness. This is recycling at its best!

Emilee Harper has been creating art as long as she can remember. The daughter of a quilter, she learned to sew at around 6-years old. She moved to Maine from her home state of South Carolina to attend Maine College of Art to study printmaking. She loved the process of layering, playing with color and texture, and eventually incorporating fiber into her work.

Emilee discovered Midcoast and fell in love with the natural beauty. Her work is inspired by the world around her. Flowers and fungi, stars and sea, are repeated themes in her embroidery pieces.
